"Something
wrong when a four-year-old boy never smiles"
ALO Update Vol 12 No 3
Jim and Debi Stem met Anojin through their ALO-supported feeding
program at Darkhan hospital in Mongolia. He had been very sick and
in the hospital for a long time, but doctors didn’t know what
was wrong or how to help him. His sad little face reflected his hopelessness
and pain.
During the four months Jim and Debi fed Anojin through their ALO-supported
feeding program, the Stems made it their mission to make Anojin smile.
They brought crayons and coloring books to help him pass the long
hours. They brought his favorite foods and treats. They prayed with
him, talked with him, and smiled at him. But Anojin never smiled.
Not once.
Then Jim and Debi took Anojin to a bigger hospital in Ulaanbaatar,
Mongolia’s capital city. Doctors diagnosed Anojin with bone
tuberculosis in his hip. The ball had disintegrated in the socket,
making it necessary to fuse Anojin’s femur to his hip.
Thanks to people like you who support the work of Jim and Debi Stem,
Anojin is now doing great. He walks with a noticeable limp, but it
hasn’t slowed him down as he runs and plays with the other
children. Anojin and his whole family are now Christians and a faithful
part of Jim and Debi’s church. Anojin’s mother now cooks
for other needy children at Darkhan hospital.
And Anojin? He’s smiling again. A lot. “He always has
a big smile on his face for everyone!” Jim Stem confirms. Thanks
to ALO. Thanks to you.
