Music that Revives the Spirit
ALO Update Vol 18 No 2

Chiang Rai, Thailand — On December 5, 2008, songs of praise, worship, and consecration rose to heaven from the children of Chiang Rai Children’s Home. Their annual Spiritual Revival Concert encourages the children to listen to uplifting Christian music while giving them opportunities to use their musical gifts to minister to God and to the other children and staff.

Workers at the children’s home recognize that music is an important tool in reaching and teaching the boys and girls in their care. “Children love to listen to music, especially modern music, because they enjoy it and it makes them happy,” explains ministry helper Suree. “They are often influenced by secular music they can easily find on the radio, television, and the Internet. We observe that this music is not really helpful for the children, so we try to help them discover Christian music that will be good for them.”

To this end, the kids listen to good Christian music each day before school. And once a year they help present the Spiritual Revival Concert.

“They love to join in, because we give all children opportunity to use their gifts through song, dance, playing instruments, and drama,” Suree said. “Many are gifted. Spiritual Revival Concert helps them grow and get closer to God. Additionally, we encourage and support those who are gifted to serve God further. They love to attend because they learn new things and make new friends.”
