’Twas the night before Christmas, and in Asia Pacific
Children in need could feel pretty terrific
Because kindhearted people had followed God’s leading,
Giving gifts to provide what the children were needing.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
Under blankets that warmed from their feet to their heads.
Babes slept in new cradles; no cries did they make;
While kids with soft new sheets could not stay awake.
They snuggled in bedding warm from their new dryer,
With no worry their overworked old one’d catch fire.
Yet in summertime, when the heat would turn cruel,
A new air conditioner would keep toddlers cool.

Hunger pains wouldn’t wake them from their long winter’s nap,
For their new refrigerator made food prep a snap.
Cash might even be spared for a few Christmas treats,
Now their fish pond saved money, yielding more food to eat.
No troubling sounds came from the rooftop above:
The roof had been fixed thanks to kind gifts of love.
Your gift to the girls was more than a token:
Their rundown old dorm room is no longer broken.

And appreciative workers knew somebody cared,
’Cause their floors and their rafters had all been repaired.
All the big kids were thrilled with a gift that keeps giving:
A computer lab to teach them to earn a good living.
This story is Christmas future; it hasn’t happened yet.
It tells of some needs that still have to be met.
But our ALO friends always do what is right
To bring a merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
If God has blessed you and you feel so inclined,
Please consider a need that touches your heart or your mind.
Give so the children see Christmas this year,
And pass on God’s gift of great love and good cheer.
