Moved By Compassion

HANNAH HENNING’S STORY

I’m running 5K to save one child from hunger, generational poverty, exploitation, spiritual hopelessness... even death. Here’s my story:

In 2018, I traveled to Surabaya, Indonesia, on a mission trip to help a school assisting some truly vulnerable, underprivileged children. During my short time there, I fell in love with the people and their culture.

During a second trip in 2019, my heart broke as I encountered people searching for hope and truth. I heard about villages with no churches and where the gospel has never reached. I knew God was calling me to serve the people of Indonesia and in the Asia Pacific region.

A year later, I was unsure why God had placed that fire inside of me and confused about what to do with this passion. Then, when scrolling through Facebook, I read about a virtual 5K run/walk to support Asia’s Little Ones. I was eager to sign up and support a ministry whose mission I was passionate about.

After signing up, I connected with ALO director Doris Eckert. Over coffee, we shared stories of Indonesia and talked about God’s calling. As Doris shared the various ways Asia’s Little Ones ministers to children in Indonesia, the Lord quietly whispered that, even though I’m on the other side of the world, this was an opportunity for me to serve the people of Indonesia and Asia Pacific.

I am excited to partner with Asia’s Little Ones again this year and honored to be part of the planning team for another fun event, the Save-One Run. In October, the Save-One Run will raise awareness and support for ALO’s 2021 projects that provide education and safe homes for children in Asia Pacific. If you have a heart for missions, a heart for the people of Asia Pacific, or a heart to help children and see them come to know God, I would love for you to partner with me. Sign up for the event as a participant, as a sponsor, or to pray for its success—it will make a huge difference in the life of a child who desperately needs to experience Christ’s love!
